Like many other specialized hobbies, it's important to learn basic collecting banknotes terminology, including the parts of a note. You can find more definitions in the glossary.
Front
Side of the coin with the effigy or with the main design. Face or obverse side of a note.
- Portrait: A representation or model of a person on a note.
- Denomination: Face or nominal value of a note.
- Signatures: Signed names of the Secretary of Treasury and the Governor of the Bank of Australia.
- Tactile Bump: Embossed tactile feature to assist the vision-impaired community.
- Window: See-through security feature.

Tail or reserve side of a banknote.
- Serial number: Letters and digits showing the position of a banknote in a serie.
- Window: See-through security feature.
- Edge: Slim third side of a banknote.
