Fifty cent 1979 - Not intended for circulation
The 1979 Royal Australian Mint proof coins set was presented in a clear acrylic case, with blue holder and white foam covers used for protection.
Most years since 1966, the Royal Australian Mint has released a proof set containing proof examples of Australia's circulating coinage. Proof coins have a different and more refined manufacturing process than circulation coins. The dies are polished to give a cameo-like/mirror-like or matte finish.
In 1979, some sets come with a 50 cent coin Double bar variety.
