Fifty cent 1982 - Not intended for circulation

The 1982 Royal Australian Mint proof coins set was presented in a clear acrylic case, with green holder and white foam covers used for protection.

Most years since 1966, the Royal Australian Mint has released a proof set containing proof examples of Australia's circulating coinage. Proof coins have a different and more refined manufacturing process than circulation coins. The dies are polished to give a cameo-like/mirror-like or matte finish.

In 1982, the 50 cents coin original coat of arms design was replaced with the Commonwealth Games one for circulating and proof coins.

The high release price and issue numbers of this set make it a poor choice for investors. Although not immediately felt felt until a year later, values of the set plummeted when it became clear there were far more sets in the marketplace than collectors wished to own. The situation was addressed in the following year but was not rectified until mintage restrictions were tightened in 1984.

Fifty cent 1982 value

The value of a Australian coin depends on several factors such as quality and wear, supply and demand, rarity, finish and more.
